Dining Hall, Millbrook School | Millbrook, New York
The School had been increasingly ill-served by their existing dining hall as enrollment grew. The concept for a new dining hall grew out of the Student Master Life Plan completed by VMA in 2012. Forming a new exterior court directly behind the current dining room, the 400-seat room is characterized by a large central volume with narrower isles on the flanks. The sustainable, farm-to-table intentions for food service are embedded in the design with materials choices, day lighting, and geothermal systems. Views to the north features the school’s organic gardens. The original dining room will become the campus living room, and the outdoor courtyard will be used for outdoor dining and events.
