Thorndale Farm | Millbrook, New York
Thorndale Farm is a management office for a private trust. Situated on a back street, the building speaks to its surrounding context of barns, out buildings and rail road structures. Offices and support spaces open onto the circulation which follows the u-shaped perimeter and forms a courtyard, making for a scenic walk through the building. A secondary aspect of the program supports fundraising and entertainment. The open flow of the plan allows for various events to be held in the space, with a catering kitchen tucked away from the eye while being easily accessible for staff. A mix of open and private offices are supported by a double height conference room and flexible meeting rooms for staff discussions and presentations. Outside the formal conference room, a lounge serves as the ante chamber for relaxation. The formal conference room reflects the importance of decisions made within, and doubles as a formal dining room.
