Academic Building, Penn State Abington | Abington, Pennsylvania
The Abington Campus of Penn State University is a dynamic and flourishing undergraduate community which has experienced extensive enrollment growth over the past several decades, and it expects this trend to continue in the future. With existing classrooms and labs already fully engaged throughout the day and a shortage of faculty offices, a new Academic Building is required to accommodate the anticipated rise in student body. Seeking to meet these spatial demands and using the campus master plan as a guide, a program and conceptual design for a new Academic Building were developed, including a review of the space use in other existing academic buildings to create a unified academic space plan for the campus. Planned in conjunction with a new Student Union, the two buildings will work together to create a new focal point on the bucolic campus.
