Pitman United Methodist Church | Pitman, New Jersey
After their historic church was destroyed in a tragic fire, the congregation selected VMA to lead the rebuilding effort. The resulting tripartite design organized by education, worship and fellowship was one which celebrated simplicity and function. Reflecting the rural agrarian community, the exterior was clad primarily in white clapboard with the central, double-height worship space highlighted with the utilization of red barn siding. The sanctuary features a balcony permitting the space to feel intimate during smaller services but equally capable of hosting the full congregation. In the place of honor above the alter, stained glass which survived the blaze serves as a visual reminder of the resilience of the church and community.
