Blue Bell Barn | Blue Bell, Pennsylvania
A 19th century barn adjacent to the farmhouse in which our clients had lived for 25 years was transformed into their primary house. The design strategy allows the original structure to lead the way. Most interior barn structural framing walls were left in place, while beams were selectively removed and reinforced to incorporate a new second floor. Existing stone walls were preserved with portions selectively exposed. The exterior fireplace, terraces, and a hot tub provide a series of intimate spaces to enjoy. Views extend to the stream, meadows, and woodlands beyond the paddock walls. Overall, the design celebrates simple form, openness, and the stone and wood finishes of the original structure.
