Arts and Crafts Cottage Renovation
To win the bid for a historic house in Swarthmore, VMA’s clients wrote a poem describing what the place would mean to them and how much love they would give to it.
VMA’s design would not only involve renovation and addition, but would also meet the needs of a growing family of four and harness the energy and inspiration of the couple’s collecting furniture and fabrics appropriate to the arts and crafts style of the home.
Formerly a doctor’s office suite and cramped kitchen, the first floor, after a twenty-square-foot addition, was converted to a gracious open kitchen and a family room with breakfast nook, office area, and space for kitchen cabinetry. In addition, a mudroom and powder room, adjacent to a new gardening/garage entrance toward the back of the house, was created out of what had been the original kitchen. On the second floor, we installed a master suite with a tiny, but beautiful, bath and closets. A hall bath was also renovated.
