Elementary & Middle School
Gwynedd Mercy Academy | Gwynedd Valley, Pennsylvania
A strategic plan undertaken by Gwynedd Mercy Academy had identified the need for smaller class sizes, consolidated fine arts offerings, a better science lab, and a self-contained academic wing for grades 6-8. To achieve these goals, VMA repurposed the existing elementary school and designed an addition to house the middle school and arts programs.
The addition harmonizes and complements the existing school buildings. The interiors are bright with high ceilings, light finishes and extensive windows. Technology is integrated into the classrooms which encourages creativity and innovation in the classroom while allowing teachers to adapt their lessons according to individual students’ needs. The Elementary School renovation included an expanded cafeteria, offices and work areas for faculty and staff, and accessibility improvements.
