Malvern Preparatory School | Malvern, Pennsylvania
The overarching goal of the Malvern Preparatory School comprehensive campus plan was to better align their landscape and facilities with strategic changes in their curriculum while making the best use of a beautiful natural setting. It was also very important that the Augustinian teachings and Catholic values at the heart of their institution were still reflected throughout.
Paramount were spaces for STEAM activities, conceptualized as an infill structure connecting their existing science building and a classroom building. The school wanted to encourage students and faculty to cross their departmental boundaries and foster co-curricular collaboration. We worked with the educational consultants Wonder by Design to help balance these innovative programs with the school’s preferred pedagogical approach.
A new middle school building is proposed on a site where it will nestle between the Duffy Arts Center and their existing dining hall, giving it room to have beautiful play areas around it. Other projects proposed in the plan include a welcome center, an alumni house, expansion of athletic facilities including a hockey rink and two new turf fields, an environmental pavilion on the edge of their pond, and walking/jogging trails. Parking was proposed around the perimeter of campus to create a very pedestrian-friendly campus.
The school identified the STEAM facility, to be known as the Center for Social Impact, as a top priority and engaged VMA to execute the design. Construction was completed in Fall 2019.
