Phased Classroom Expansion
The Miquon School | Conshohocken, Pennsylvania
The Miquon School sought a comprehensive campus plan to guide expansion of their elementary school facilities. Proud of its agrarian roots, dating back to 1932, the pre-K through Grade 6 school is gifted with a stunning campus that features lush wooded grounds and a meandering stream but also limitations that constrain its campus footprint.
VMA proposed a ten-year plan that would include new buildings for the arts, the library, and other improvements. All buildings would be in keeping with the school’s small scale, their focus on sustainability, and supportive of their signature immersive hands-on teaching style.
Site improvements included new paths, lighting, stormwater management, significantly enhanced pedestrian and vehicular access, and strategic renovations to existing facilities. VMA addressed spatial confines with practical solutions like installing lofts for reading and creating space for small group teaching within existing classrooms. Altogether, the project conveys a sense of joy and playfulness and a deep connection to nature.
