Phased Classroom Expansion
The Miquon School | Conshohocken, Pennsylvania
Miquon School sought a comprehensive campus plan to guide an expansion of their elementary school facilities under challenging site conditions while maintaining the campus’s unique character. The school was proud of their agrarian roots, dating back to 1932, and their campus is characterized by lush wooded grounds, a meandering stream, and discrete buildings for each grade (pre-K through 6th). It conveys a sense of joy, playfulness and connection with nature through its child-centered facilities.
We proposed a ten-year plan that included new buildings for the arts, the library, and more; site improvements to paths, lighting, and stormwater management; significantly enhanced pedestrian and vehicular access; and strategic renovations to existing facilities. A critical element was identifying by-right opportunities to expand existing footprints, as well as developing practical solutions to create new space like installing lofts for reading and creating space for small-group teaching within the existing classrooms.
