Mount Saint Joseph Academy | Flourtown, Pennsylvania
Mount Saint Joseph Academy identified a need for improved and expanded facilities for both their arts and athletics programs. The school envisioned this could be achieved by an addition to their existing arts facilities.
VMA completed a feasibility study to conceptualize that vision and then worked with the school on a design that would achieve its implementation. A first phase would address the arts, while a second phase of the plan would focus on athletics and playing fields.
The arts plan establishes a kiln room and two art studios, each with a pitched roof and ample, natural north-facing light. Benches along the window of the studios serve the dual function of supplemental seating while covering heating elements. In addition, the existing art space was converted to a computer lab, classroom, office space, and much-needed storage for art materials. Smart boards installed in studios and classrooms, were designed with custom casework to accommodate computer storage and art materials. Lastly, the extension of the existing corridor to the addition is lined with pin-up space to display student artwork.
