Whitpain Estate & Garden
Blue Bell, Pennsylvania
When our client purchased this dilapidated estate, designed by the Philadelphia architectural firm Mellor, Meigs & Howe in 1925, they desired a greater sense of openness and larger living spaces. We worked with our client to completely reconfigure the existing home, creating a plan to efficiently meet the needs and desires of a modern household. Views between the estate gardens, home and surrounding countryside were carefully considered to maximize beauty and reestablish the long-lost relationship between house, groves, gardens and fields. Research was conducted to knit together the scattered fragments of the old garden plan, allowing the exterior garden spaces to be restored to their former glory. A new pool house, garage and connecting loggia were introduced to the site, fitting seamlessly into the estate by reusing the existing garden walls.
